Demons do not die from aging, they have to be physically killed by something or someone. They're Celestials just like the Angels as their lineage dates back to Angels.
The original demons were Fallen Angels who strove to go even beyond the fallen status, eventually becoming demons in their own right, they went exploring in other planes, not just the mortal one. They wanted to find somewhere they could call 'home' for the fallen, however once they settled in the empty plane that was Hell, right next door to Heaven, they found that their bodies changed. They regrew wings though they were scaled and bat like, they grew horns, tails, and sometimes even their eyes and skin colours changed. It was like their originally almost eldritch appearances merged with the human like appearances they had come to take.
All demons by default have access to Chaos magic.
Most demons usually have two things in their demonic forms, from the following:- If you want to risk it then roll 1d6 to see how many traits you could grab.
Generally speaking demons despise Holy Angels, in fact, the majority of demons will attempt to kill a Holy Angel if they see one, purely on the basis of 'kill them before they kill me'. This hostility has come because Holy Angels see the Demons as a 'corrupted' part of the Angel lineage and thus they should be 'purged'.
Demons seem to enjoy the company of Goblins, Fae and the Gorgons. But dislike the company of the Nonrid.
Usually it's younger demons who're wanting to learn about the mortal plane and the Other who join the hunt.
As such we suggest anywhere between 100 - 800 years of age is recommended unless they've been taking part in the hunt for longer and have experience. In such cases it's recommended to aim for an age between 500 - 1000 years.
The Libidines are the demons who tend to frequent and even sometimes live in the Mortal Plane, they treasure the way that life is on the mortal plane, they do not die from aging but they treasure the short connections they have with mortals. To the point that they are incredibly possessive of their mortal friends, if anything were to end a mortals life early who happens to be friends with a Libidine, that Libidine demon will stop at NOTHING to ensure that the offender suffers death but not before they suffer.
The Libidines find Mortals to be rather amusing, they find it endearing how much mortals treasure their families, their friendships, and their lives and while these demons have a soft spot for mortals it doesn't count out other species. Angels, even chimera, doesn't matter what species people are, they are still people to them. They enjoy having allies, they enjoy having those connections, and often will take a singular lover, until that lover passes. That doesn't mean that they aren't flirty with others, they will always be flirty with others but they will only ever have eyes for one person until that person dies.
They are incredibly loyal, but can be incredibly intense as a life partner. They're physically affectionate whenever the chance presents itself specifically towards a lover. This is probably why they've been called the Libidine, and where the misconception and idea of Icubi and Sucubi have come from as the Libidine have some similarities.
Libidines usually have a love of sweets and pastries.
Libidines have access to the elements of fire, water, lightning and earth. Though they usually specialize in two of these and on top of this they tend to take on a skin tone from the element they're associated with, red and browns for fire, blues and greens for water, purples and blues for lightning, browns and greens for earth.
They're quite attractive in their human glamours but they're also quite attractive even in their demonic forms.
The Ignis have made their home in the Chaos Plane, they are often brought up on battle, only the strong or smart survive in the Chaos plane, as such there are two subtypes of Ignis, Vi and Lux. They all have access to the elements of fire, lightning, Ice and Wind, they also have the addition of having access to abyssal magic from the void however as with all things, using it too much will destroy their minds and eventually their bodies. Though they usually specialize in two of the listed elements.
Ignis have a love of hard alcohol, they process it fairly quickly but they enjoy it for the burn, they also for this very reason love spicy foods and are especially fond of anything containing Infernus or Diabolas peppers the second being much harder to obtain if they've chosen to stay in a different plane to their birth land. The Ignis tend come in all sorts of colours though the most common is red.
These are the Ruthless and Violent, victory at all costs type of demons, the ones that will possess mortals simply to cause as much chaos on the mortal plane as possible, and the ones who would like to bring the chaos plane to the mortal plane so that only the strongest of all species survives. They believe it is their given birth right to spread chaos.
It is possible to change an Ignis-Vi to an Ignis-Lux, this however is a slow change. It requires patience, and getting them to understand that chaos is not always the answer, that there's more to life than chaos, and that there can be a little controlled chaos from time to time to sate that nature of theirs. But they can develop lasting relationships if they can find a connection to someone or something.
Most Vi do not marry, they also do not have children out of love but simply to prolong their own bloodline as such they'll try and produce many offspring with as many willing partners as possible. There is no love in these relationships. However, the Vi have a soft spot for children, as such, they will protect children especially younger ones as they've often done nothing wrong. This means they will protect their brood even if it costs their lives to do so, the same applies to children of other species. They'll try to play it off as if they don't care but the Vi are passionate creatures, they just need to find a way to channel that Chaos of theirs for the better.
The Ignis-Lux have higher intellect than their Vi kin. They're more likely to hide behind the Vi and plan strategies from afar, if they do fight they prefer ranged assaults rather than upfront confrontations. For the Lux everything other than brawn can be a weapon, bows, spears, even people and any connections they have. Though they do occassionally have treasured people who they would never use as a weapon or pawn.
When angered, the Lux are not explosive, they are calm, collected and above all, cold. It's a cold blue fire they have that will envelope them and whatever has pushed them in to rage and anger.
They do marry though usually if it's someone from the Chaos plane it's not for love, it's simply for status. A lot of Lux marriages are arranged rather than sought out for themselves. Though most who've been to other planes of existence will opt to have a chosen lover even if they are married. This often ends with them divorcing their husband or wife in order to go and live a life beyond the Chaos plane, and they will remarry, to their chosen partner.
A Lux family is usually well managed if strict, in the case it's a chosen partner they're having a family with, that strictness instead turns to understanding and support.
These are the demons that are most commonly spoken of. The Familiares, the Hellions, the devils, fiends. There are two ways in which the Familiares manifest.
Their home is Hell. They have access to all elements but usually only use 2 of the elements without any access to abyssal void magic or astral magic. They take a variety of colours, pinks, oranges, reds and browns and often have bright irises on black sclera with 2 of the listed demonic traits in their demon forms.
The Familiares love things with caffine in them.
When they do this they tend to take possess a mortals corpse or those who are dying and seek a second chance at life, often ending with some parts of their appearance leaking through that person's body, such as eye colour, or hair colour. Their presence keeps the mortal alive until they have healed to full and eject the demon but it does mean that part of their personality mingles in to the human host of whom they've taken over.
Once ejected from the human they keep the same form, effectively adding a new glamour to their collection and becoming an identical twin to the original host.
Some of these demons become familiars for powerful warlocks. They only pick the mot powerful to tie themselves to, this means that they can unlock special spells that are only available to pact holders and the bound demon to use. They can nullify their contract at any time should their partner break their terms or promise made in order to have the demon as a familiar.
The Fatis, or Fates, unlike their demon brethren who have innate access to chaos magic instead have access exclusively to aether, the magic that comes directly from the Astral Sea or as some would call it, the sea of the dead or from the void, those whom have access to abyssal magic from the Fatis often don't show effects from it unless they've used nothing but it for years, they are so innately attuned to such magics that it barely effects them, and signs that it has affected them often shows in the form of Abyssal Ashing up their arms and legs from their feet and hands, they don't have the black veins that others end up getting.
The Fatis are usually necromancers by trade or pretend to be witches and warlocks, they often don't look much like demons until they are in their homeland in which case they often have blood red eyes with slit pupils which shine through if they scream out of anger in the mortal plane. They automatically glamour in to a more human look when they travel, often with tired dark rings under their eyes.
They have access to two other elements, of their choosing, exemptions are of course chaos magic, and then one element that (you the player choose) is forever locked off for them.
Junk foods seem to be the Fatis vice.
Since the Fatis are the most in tune with the demonic nature they tend to have 5 traits from the listing of demonic appearance traits. Their eye colour seems to change when they have a spike in emotional stress, yellow/gold for joy, red for anger, blue for sadness and purple for love.
They can often be found in Limbo as that is their home land however they can sometimes be found dipping in to the Astral Sea.
Demons are often seen as highly charismatic, evil, cruel and callous creatures. It’s not incorrect but not always correct either. In fact a lot of them are easy to get along with, however the Ignis from the Chaos Plane are the ones who are often the source of these misconceptions, they cause destruction wherever they go. When you think of possession, it's the Ignis who're responsible.
A common misconception as it's often difficult for people to get close to demons for long without them being 'evil' people or 'tainted' themselves. The original demons were actually fallen angels. Currently new demons are formed from human souls that have been twisted by the ‘Other’, this plane exists out of the reach of mortals usually. Some of these demons were just humans who got stuck in the ‘Other’ while some willingly stayed of their own accord.
Another and last misconception, all demons are just animals, they’re connected to baser wants and needs and are hedonistic. While yes they know how to have a good time and they enjoy all that life has to offer while they can. They are also celestial beings who time has little concept too. Demons unlike their angel brethren are so intune with ‘connections’ that they build after being in the Mortal Plane that they often get rather upset if that connection is destroyed.
Once per chapter, if ammunition is running low for the Libidine, they can call in an ammunition drop. Roll 5d10 to see how many clips (or boxes in the case of shot guns and arrows) of ammunition you can get for yourself, and then pick one other ally. They roll 5d10 to see how many clips they can get, as your contact is willing to drop ammunition for two people.
The Ignis have ways of making extra cash to start off with, during the creation stage pick one of the following things that they have done:-
Ignis-Vi
Ignis-Lux
They gain 8000 money to start the game with.
The Familiare knows a highly regarded Warlock. In instances where magic items are needed to be appraised, they can go and pay their warlock friend a visit. The Warlock will appraise ONE of the items you show them, you get to pick which one. You learn ALL that there is to know about the item. This can be used once a chapter.
When you make your character, roll 2d4. This is the amount of small favours the Fatis are owed, could be getting a little cash, could be someone getting them in to a closed bar or club, could even be someone having to give them a way to get to another realm no questions asked. The Fatis helped these people or species with various things over time and can call these favours in whenever they wish. Once they are used up however they no longer have any more favours to claim.
Most demons aren't hunted but are the hunters. The ones that cause all the misconceptions are often the ones who do end up hunted and exterminated but that's due to their own idiocy and ego getting the better of them.
Libidines with horns might be hunted for those horns because powdered Libidine horns are said to be a good viagra. Though as with all demons that have horns they also shed them three times a year, so they can look in to selling their horns at a night market in a plane of existence where they'll fetch some good coin or trade.
