"Never make a deal with the Pixie, not unless you're willing to give up your first born or pay them back in spades."— Aelwen
The Fae Born are those who’re born in the fae lands. These are inherently magical or social creatures however, on occasion there are human looking people who’ve inherited traits from their fae ancestors.
In the case of humans who awaken fae abilities their fae lineage is unknown to them until there’s an accident that triggers their iron allergy.
The Fae as an entire species tend to be highly wary of Witches, Wizards, Warlocks, Angels and the Iná-rei. They seem to be fond of demons though as demons can be just as much pranksters as the Pixie.
Anything more than 200 years of age. 200 years of age is seen to be something similar to around 18/19 years old (physically) in human years.
The Headless Riders. Dullahan are often on the hunt looking for whatever creature or people have their head. They wish to reclaim it. Often it's the result of a curse that's been placed on them, or the result of the astral sea having claimed only part of their soul. They are neither alive nor dead. They have become something else as the rest of their power comes from the Fae Lands.
The Dullahan is said to be an ill omen but they simply are headless. Once they retrieve their head they will reattach it or just carry it around with them during travels. Sometimes they will have momentary flashes of where their head may be located, through their own eyes, whether they recognize the location or not is another story entirely.
Elves are human-like Fae who can change their appearance from being their elven selves to that of a human appearance. They have amazing hearing, looks and even charisma. To see an elf in its natural form within the fae lands is to see one of the most beautiful creatures known to humans and many other species. As such elves are sadly taught to hide who they are should they venture in to the mortal realm. This is simply because humans, demons and other species have a habit of trying to capture them along with the Nymphs.
Some wish for them to be concubines to them, others wish to sell them off in other realms. Elves can fight of course, infact they're often quite proficient, they may not have brawn but they do have skill on their side. Nonrid and Goblins especially enjoy Elves. They can sometimes be found being bought and sold at the Night Markets in the Shadow Lands / Limbo or the Chaos Plane where there's no rules against such practices.
Beautiful creatures of the oceans, the mermaids were also called ‘sirens’ at one time due to their song luring sailors to their deaths even if the Sirens were quite different. Mermaids walk on land as humans, however once in the water? They can breathe beneath the waves and are usually excellent swimmers. Humans for many decades have been trying to prove these creatures exist, however the mermaids are quite quick to avoid detection.
Sadly a mermaid whom falls in love with someone will turn to sea foam should their lover die. They are bonded on a level of the soul.
Nymphs are nature spirits who materialize as beautiful human women and rarely beautiful human men. In myth, some of them were even considered to be gods or goddesses. They are associated with the elements and could be of any element. Thy are linked with fertility, air, fire, water, and earth. They are immortal, they do not age and are typically friendly to men.
Some nymphs are protectors of particular spaces and these ones will not leave those set places, while others are free to travel and do what they like. Most are benevolent however there are some that are quite hostile towards humans for the destruction they bring to the mortal realms natural resources, animals and natural beauty.
Sadly all Nymph have to hide who and what they are unless they trust someone not to hurt/harm them, they take human forms as disguises and act as though they're human, if they don't they run a high risk of being abducted by demons, angels, goblins and nonrid the nonrid especially so as Nymph blood is a delicacy to them and sustains them for a long period of time. They can sometimes be found being bought and sold at the Night Markets in the Shadow Lands / Limbo or the Chaos Plane where there's no rules against such practices.
The Salamander, they look like humans with many scales, horns, claws, tails and sometimes even strangely coloured skin. They have also been known as dragons and do possess the innate ability to take a dragon form while within the Fae Lands. Some in history have been known to take dragon form in the mortal realm. However they have learned to instead take a human disguise instead so that they are not hunted and killed.
They are prone to hoarding gold, silver and any precious metals, while gemstones are of no interest to them. Many are drawn to humans as possible mates, and will in some cases simply steal them away as part of their treasured hoard. Salamanders are associated with the element of fire.
The Pixies have always had a fascination with the arts, singing, instruments and more so often they’re adept at one of them, they also seem to have an affinity for looking after animals so may have many animals at home. Pixies tend to have a youthful appearance and often dress in green, with accents of floral colours. However, they can be seen in a variety of outfits. Pixies have a mischievous personality that often deals with pranks and trickery. They can be easily identified by their short stature, small pointed ears, pale skin, and their colorful wings that flare like flower petals.
If they're in a human disguise they might be an exceptionally short young woman or man, with a rather mischievous streak. They can however be lured in to traps rather easily, all one needs to do is provide shaded spots with lots of trees and flowers for pixies if they want to attract them. Pixies value both protection and Nature and love homemade fairy houses and homemade food made with no preservatives!
Only partially true. Some fae will indeed steal children but the large majority do not. They instead broker deals and it's only the Pixies and a couple of non-playable types that do that where they will give someone something and then expect a first born child in return.
Again incorrect, mermaids can in fact take human form by replacing their tail with legs so that they can mingle with people. This often leads to the belief that they are 'Selkies' which are similar in nature but they use a seal skin to go back to the water.
Highly inaccurate, dullahan actually never kill people for no reason. In fact they only ever kill in self defense or because they are provoked (usually by someone taking its head and it wanting vengeance). The only time they will actively kill someone who hasn't done anything to them is if they are going to die soon and it would be kinder to put them out of their misery. It is likely this last reason as to why the Dullahan is thought to be an omen of death.
The Fae follow three rules of conduct:-
Promises are very sacred to the fae and hold a lot of power so if you break a promise.
If you do something of service to the fae there will often be a reward.
The Fae Queen or King, is essentially a lower God of the Fae Lands.
There's one God above them and a new Fae king or queen coming in to power will bring them up to the status of lower God.
Their word is law regardless of what it is they command.
To go against them is to go against the Fae Lands and as such it can end in several ways.
Someone owes the fae a large favour, a debt to be repaid. It can be cashed in at any time and be of any size. But this can only be called in a total of 2 times. It doesn't matter when but once this has been completely cashed in there will be no more 'favours of any size'.
While not hunted, to own a Dullahan's head is said to bring good fortune for as long as you can hold on to it, but the longer a person holds on to a Dullahan's head the bigger the chance that the Dullahan will come for their soul. As such Dullahan heads are quite literally sought after on blackmarkets.
Kidnapped, stolen, sold to the highest bidders, certain other creatures will actively seek out the elves and nymphs to capture them. It is ILLEGAL in most realms to sell sentient creatures that are able to speak any form of language.
Hunted at sea for their tails, in some realms it's seen as a delicacy.
These creatures have been hunted for centuries. Often by 'heroes' who wish to take something from their hoard of gold and silver. Or in some cases to actually rescue someone from the Salamander.
